Why was the zardosi handicrafts started in India ?

Zardozi embroidery work is the most important craft which is done by using the gold and silver threads. It is in existence since the time vedic period. In it, pearls and precious stones are also added in it.

In today’s era the copper wire and silk threads are used as well with the gold polish because of the high prices of gold and silver. It is basically the persian style which is attained its popularity since 17th century.

The centre of zardosi work in India are - Lucknow, Delhi, Hyderabad, Agra, Mumbai, Ajmer and Chennai. Zari is also used in the form of Banarasi and silk sarees. It is available in three types - metallic, real and imitation zari. Today the era of Imitation jewelry is in fashion since after the industrial revolution.

Zardozi embroidery was done in the form of the attires of the Kings of India. Their embroidery work can also be felt in tents of weddings also. This work can also be done in the attires of god statues and idols also. Surat is the largest producer city of zari threads in India.

The embroidery products are used in export market also. The main client of our embroidery producers are - US, Canada, Europe, Middle Asia. They use the embroidery work on the gift items exchanged at the sacred occasion of Christmas.
